Is Helix suited for beginners?

Helix is not for absolute beginners. Perfect for intermediate to advanced Wave riders. It is ideal for progressing riders who plane confidently and wish to challenge their limits in waveriding and Bump & Jump conditions.

Which mast should I use in my Helix sails: RDM or SDM?

Helix has been designed for use with RDM to guarantee performance, control and intended twist. The narrow mast sleeve allows for easy rigging with RDM masts.

What's the difference between KIOWA and HELIX?

The 4-batten KIOWA has a more compact profile compared to our 5-batten wave sails, the Helix range, and less built-in foil shape for a more “throw-around” persona. Also, the recommended boom and mast lengths create a more compact sail than Helix. Aramid Draft Lock clew stringers help to stabilise draft and provide a stronger, more responsive clew. The use of our hi-tech tri-Axial 2 ply laminate in the top panels of the sail keeps the swing weight down. Added luff curve has seriously improved the sail's wind range and allows the front of the sail to fill up more.

Can I use other mast brands in my Helix sail?

Yes, this is possible, but to ensure 100% performance we recommend the TRIBAL masts that the sails have been designed for. Go for constant curve masts with a little flex in the top and avoid hard top masts.

Why does Helix feel so stable?

Unlike many wave sails that rely on heavy outhaul tension, HELIX is designed to work with minimal outhaul. That means:

● The profile stays deeper and more locked
● The sail keeps its shape when powered
● The draft doesn’t move around unpredictably

The result?
More low-end power. More control at speed. Less nervous behaviour. And when paired with Tribal’s slightly flex-top masts, the sail twists and breathes exactly when needed, dumping excess power smoothly instead of violently.

Can I use Helix for Freeride as well?

Helix is first and foremost Real Wave Performance. But riders also used this sail outside the waves. On Freeride boards. On choppy lakes. In gusty inland sessions. On Freeride Boards and WindSUPs. And they didn’t switch back.

Despite its Freeride strengths, Helix remains:
• Direct in bottom turns
• Predictable in top turns
• Neutral in aerials
• Stable on hard landings
